William Batty Memorial Scholarship Application

Purpose

To provide educational scholarships to individual Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM members in order to promote further education in a healthcare-related field.

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be a current (paid) Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM member at the time of application.

 

  1. Applicant must be a paid Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM member at the time of disbursement.

 

  1. Applicant must have been a paid Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM member for at least one year prior to the application submission date.

 

  1. Applicant must be currently employed in a healthcare-related field at the time of application and disbursement.

 

  1. Applicant must successfully complete one of the following during the application year:

 

  • Course(s) at accredited college or university required for business or healthcare-related degree

 

  • Courses(s) to attain professional certifications such as:
    1. AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE)
    2. AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Professional (CRCP)
    3. AAHAM Certified Revenue Integrity Professional (CRIP)
    4. AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS-I/CRCS-P)
    5. Certified HealthCare Access Manager (CHAM)
    6. Certified HealthCare Access Associate (CHAA)
    7. Certified Compliance Technician (CCT)
    8. Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
    9. Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
    10. Certified Inpatient Coder ( CIC)
    11. Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC)
    12. Certified Professional Coder - Payer (CPC-P)
  • National AAHAM membership application fee

 

Awards

 Scholarship(s) will be awarded (as funds permit*) as follows:

 

  • Exam study guide and application fee to be awarded for successful completion of AAHAM certifications: CRCE, CRCP, CRIP, CRCS-I, or CRCS-P (awards given only for fees not reimbursed by employer or other financial assistance)
  • $500 minimum//$1000 maximum for accredited course required for business or health-care related degree (not to exceed course financial requirements in combination with other sources of financial assistance)
    • Course financial requirements include the following course-related costs and fees: tuition, lab fees and books
  • Exam application fee to be awarded for successful completion of the following certifications: CHAM, CHAA, CCT, CPC, COC, CIC, CRC or CPC-P (awards given only for fees not reimbursed by employer or other financial assistance)
  • Application fee paid for National AAHAM membership

 

*Note: Priority for all certification awards listed above will be given to AAHAM certifications.

 Application Requirements and Process

  1. Applicant must submit a completed application form, including all applicable attachments specified in the application, as well as

 

  1. a list of all other sources of financial aid such as scholarships, employer tuition reimbursement, etc., and:
    1. For courses at an accredited educational institution: a letter of acceptance from the educational institution or a statement from the registrar indicating enrollment and proof of payment of tuition and/or other course related fees
    2. For professional certifications: proof of payment of exam application fee

Selection

Selection will be based on a review of the application and supporting documents.

No preference should be accorded an applicant by reason of the applicant employment position, job title, length of employment or length of Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM membership.

Those applications which meet all requirements specified in the Eligibility and Application Requirements and Process sections will be forwarded to the review and selection committee comprised of board approved members.

The review and selection committee will review the accepted applications and select the award recipients within one month following the receipt of the application and all supporting documents, i.e., transcript of grades.

Award recipients will be notified within one week of the selection. 

Awards for the previous calendar year will be announced at the annual conference.

 

Compliance

To receive scholarship monies, awardees who have completed a healthcare-related course(s) in an accredited college or university must submit to Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM proof of successful completion (passing grade) of the course(s) with their application. This should be in the form of an official transcript of grades and credits earned from the educational institution. In addition, proof of payment for all course-related fees must be included with application.

For awardees who have attained AAHAM certifications (CRCE, CRCP, CRIP, CRCS-I or CRCS-P), Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM will receive direct notification of the successful certification, therefore, proof of successful completion is not required, however, proof of payment for study guide fees (if applicable) must be included with application. 

For awardees who have attained the following certifications (CHAM, CHAA, CCT, CPC, COC, CIC, CRC or CPC-P), proof of successful completion of certification and payment of course exam fee must be included with application.

Funding

The Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM William Batty Memorial Scholarship will be funded from the following sources:

  • Proceeds from annual Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM golf tournament.

 

  • Individual Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM member contributions in honor of William Batty. Contributions of $50 or more entitle contributor to be listed as a ‘scholarship supporter’ on the Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM website and in the Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM newsletter. The contributor will also be recognized at a Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM meeting.

 

  • 50/50 raffles at Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM meetings: 50% of the amount collected at each Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM meeting will be given to the raffle winner; the remaining 50% will be added to the scholarship fund.

 

  • Annual donation directly from Pine Tree Chapter AAHAM chapter (Board-approved)

NOTE: Applicants seeking scholarship award for exam study guide and application fee for succesful completion of AAHAM certifications (CRCE, CRCP, CRIP, CRCS-I or CRCS-P) need only complete fields with an asterisk.  All other applicants must complete all fields.

Describe, on a separate sheet, your participation in community and civic affairs. Include membership offices held, honors, etc.

AIMS AND GOALS

Outline in approximately 500 words, on a separate sheet of paper, why you desire this scholarship. Include a discussion of your aims and goals relative to your employment in patient account management.

Include on a separate sheet any additional comments which may distinguish your application from those of other applicants. This is not a required part of the application, but is for your use, if desired, in adding anything you feel would aid acceptance of your application.
